Woolungosaurus, an Australian elasmosaur. The head is coloured like a fish, so as it can be sneaking in amongst the fishies to gobble them up (an idea suggested to me by palaeontologist Colin McHenry in less infantile language).
Nice work. The shadow on the sea bottom gives a good sense of depth and makes it apparent that the elasmosaur is swimming, or better, gliding through the water.

It would make sense that Woolungosaurus could have had such a disguise, since plesiosaurs’ necks are considered to be somewhat inflexible.
As well, the position of the eyes slightly atop the skull suggests that plesiosaurs may have sneaked in on their prey from below.
Looks great!
I love the camouflage patterning. The light and dark evokes the same pattern that one sees when the sea is somewhat restless which would give a great trompe de l'oiel to anything looking down from above. Great depth as someone else has already mentioned. This actually almost looks like a traditional painting.
Great work, as always.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
